SMS Opt-In
How athletes consent to receive text messages from Runsense
Program description
Runsense is an AI-powered running coach. Athletes who sign up and choose SMS as their preferred coaching channel receive personalized training guidance via text message — including daily workout recommendations, post-run feedback, and plan adjustments based on their Strava activity data.
How users opt in
SMS consent is collected during account registration on runsense.ai. The signup form requires Strava authentication, so the opt-in flow is documented here with screenshots for verification.
- The athlete visits runsense.ai and clicks "Connect with Strava" to begin signup.
- After authorizing their Strava account, they are directed to a signup form where they enter their name, goals, and contact information.
- On the signup form, the athlete chooses their preferred coaching channel: Email or Text message. The phone number field is labeled "(optional)" by default and only becomes "(required)" when the athlete selects "Text message" as their preferred channel.
- The SMS consent checkbox appears whenever the athlete enters a phone number — whether they selected "Text message" as their preferred channel, or selected "Email" but still chose to share a phone number. The checkbox is not pre-selected; the athlete must actively check it before the form can be submitted. The form cannot be submitted while a phone number is present and the box is unchecked, enforced both client-side and server-side.
- Athletes who do not wish to receive any SMS from Runsense can select Email as their preferred channel and leave the phone number field blank. In that case the consent checkbox never appears and the form submits without any SMS consent being collected.
