Connecting your runs to Apple Health

Runsense reads your workouts from Apple Health. Apple Health is a hub — runs only appear there if the iPhone app you record with is set to share them. If your runs aren't reaching Runsense, the most common cause is that the connection between that iPhone app and Apple Health hasn't been switched on. Here's how to set it up for the iPhone apps most athletes use.

First, the quick fix: Most missing runs are fixed in a few taps: open the app that recorded the workout (Strava, Garmin, COROS, etc.) and confirm the run is there, then open Runsense. Runs reach Runsense through Apple Health, and sometimes the recording app — or Runsense itself — just needs to be opened so the latest activity pushes through. If the run still isn't showing after that, the connection between that app and Apple Health may need to be set up — see below.

Apple Watch + Apple's Workouts app

You're already set. When you record a run on Apple Watch using Apple's built-in Workouts app, it flows to Apple Health automatically — no extra setup needed. To confirm, open the Health app on your iPhone, tap Browse → Activity → Workouts, and recent Watch sessions should show there.

Strava

If you record runs with the Strava iPhone or Watch app — directly, or synced from a Garmin / COROS / Polar / Suunto / Wahoo watch via Strava — set the connection up in the iPhone app so Strava writes each run to Apple Health.

  1. Open the Strava app on your iPhone
  2. Tap 'You' (lower right corner)
  3. Tap the settings gear icon (upper right corner)
  4. Tap 'Manage apps and devices'
  5. Tap 'Health — Connect with Health'

COROS (iPhone app, for COROS watches)

If you wear a COROS watch, the COROS iPhone app — the one your watch pairs with — needs to be set to share with Apple Health.

  1. Open the COROS app on your iPhone
  2. Tap 'Profile' (lower right corner)
  3. Scroll down and tap 'Settings'
  4. Tap '3rd Party Apps'
  5. Tap 'Data Sync'
  6. Tap 'Apple Health'

Garmin Connect (iPhone app, for Garmin watches)

If you wear a Garmin watch, the Garmin Connect iPhone app — the one your watch pairs with — needs to be set to share with Apple Health.

  1. Open the Garmin Connect app on your iPhone
  2. Tap 'More' (lower right corner)
  3. Tap 'Settings'
  4. Tap 'Connected Apps'
  5. Tap 'Apple Health'
  6. Tap 'Activities' and turn it on

Suunto (iPhone app, for Suunto watches)

If you wear a Suunto watch, connect it to Strava — that's how your runs reach Apple Health, since the Suunto app's own "Save to Apple Health" option carries only heart rate for outdoor runs, not distance. Connect Suunto to Strava with the steps below, then set Strava to share with Apple Health using the Strava steps above.

  1. Open the Suunto app on your iPhone
  2. Tap 'Profile'
  3. Tap 'Connect to other services'
  4. Tap 'Strava' and log in to authorize the connection

After switching the connection on, complete one short run and let your iPhone app sync (or re-sync a recent activity from the app's settings) so Apple Health has something to share with Runsense. New runs will flow automatically from then on.
